Every individual, firm, society, company or corporation who or which manufacture, prepacks or imports any commodity for sale, distribution or delivery shall register with the Controller of Legal Metrology of the concerned State or with the Director of Legal Metrology, Government of India by making an application, accompanied with a fee of rupees five hundred, to the Director or the Controller for the registration of his or its name, complete address and the name of commodity likely to be packed or pre-packed or imported.
Selling of packaged commodities without obtaining due registration is an offence under the provision of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Rules framed thereunder.
